back to using 1.50 stable...

Firstly, when the dock starts up, it practically lags my comp down to hell. So much that the mouse movement is crippled. Same happens whenever I empty my recyclebin, either from the desktop or via the default docklet.

Secondly, only part of the icons is now clickable. My dock is on top of my screen, and the upper half of any given dock icon is unresponsive.

I can't click any of my icons. Even when I right-click on an icon, it's as if I'm right-clicking an empty spot on the bar because the context menu doesn't give me options for the icon I right-clicked. I uninstalled, reinstalled, enabled/disabled dragging, fooled with ontop. I can't seem to get it working. I'm running Vista.

Do a uninstall and then go to
Start
Computer
click on Hard Drive
click on Programs
scroll down until you see Stardock
Click on Stardock and make sure that OD has be deleted.
If it hasn't, delete it.

Then Download Stardock Central and download the lastest Object Dock version from there.

I am runing Vista. no problems.

Kilu:

Trying to track this down this slowdown....a few questions. Does it happen on every startup of ObjectDock? E.g. if you were to open it and then close it... if you opened it again and closed it will it happen again just as bad? Also, I'm not sure if the System Tray functionality is having anything to do with this. Can you please try removing / turning off System Trays temporarilly from your docks...and perhaps taskbars as well if that doesn't help, and seeing if that helps cure the lagginess? Trying to track this down but not sure what's causing it for you...thanks for any help you can give I appreciate

Yes, it happens on every startup of OD. While testing I noticed that it happens when closing it as well. I have neither the tray or taskbar in my dock.

I also monitored my cpu activity, and there is no significant increase in the cpu usage during the lagginess. I also tested it out with clean OD install with the default docks, no difference.

About the unclickable icons, it looks like it only happens on the topdocks, bottom, left and right docks are working as expected. If I turn the zooming off in the topdock, the icons are completely unresponsive, as if the clickable area would be below the actual dock, and only when large enough zooming is enabled, would the icon cross over to that area.

Let me know what else I can try.

Jeff,
Same here. Every one of these beta builds has SEVERE slowdown when (1)OD+ loading up; (2)Emptying the Norton Protected Files; (3)Installing any new program; (4)Plugging in a removeable disk. Basically any explorer disk activity. My system is WinXP Pro SP2.

only problem i have with OD 1.60 preview is a little bit of lag on startup, not enough to stop my mouse movement alltogether, but it does make it a little jerky, other than that i have had no other prblems with it, everything else worts as it should

Good news everyone, I've figured it out Refreshing the build tomorrow evening with the fix. Basically, I thought I had to make a change for Vista in a spot, but I didn't, I just needed to find a better workaround. Turns out the different type of mousehook that I tried to use in place of the old one was sloowwwww.

Excellent news.

I also noticed that the .011 build's change list includes a fix to the icon problem, so hooray!

Yes, the mouse lag is a thing of the past. Well done.

Looks good so far, on the reboot after installing. Mouse lag is gone. Wincustomize link actually goes to Wincustomize.com, not my browser's home page.

Still same issue as has been around since at least 1.50, however. When I empty the Norton Protected Files, OD just freezes for a minute or more. Does not update, and mouse has hourglass cursor if I move it over the dock. This is for a while, even after the hard drive activity has completed. It will eventually come back and respond perfectly normally. It's not major - but a definite quirk, and not new.

OpusCroakus: does this happen only when your recycle bin is very full and you empty it? Or is the wait longer the more-full it is? Thanks!
on Apr 21, 2007
Yes, the more full, the longer the wait. Even with only a hundred or so files, though, there *is* a wait. This happens on both my main desktop and my laptop systems. Both XP Pro SP2. Both Norton SystemWorks 2006 (but may have happened with earlier versions). Laptop is OD+ 1.5 release, Desktop is OD+ latest beta. I'm not sure if it would happen the same way using just the regular Recycle Bin, as I usually Shift-Delete to bypass the regular Recycle Bin, since I have NU installed.

Gotcha. Alright thanks for the info. I'll see if there's something I can do
